Advisory on Citrix Virtual Apps Essentials Changes
Wincourse Technologies is informing clients of a significant change to Citrix's Virtual Apps Essentials service.
As of October 31, 2023, Citrix has discontinued the sale of “Virtual Apps and Desktops Essentials” followed by a complete shutdown planned for May 31, 2024. Virtual Apps Essentials, available through the Azure marketplace, allowed customers to publish applications and hosted shared desktops on Azure workloads.
Going forward, Citrix aims to streamline its offerings by providing Customers with two transition strategies. Customers currently utilizing Azure Virtual Apps Essentials can either work with a Citrix Partner to migrate their workloads to a new Citrix DaaS Standard for Azure or engage with one of Citrix’s Service Providers (CSP) to host their workload.
Citrix DaaS Standard for Azure Option
Upgrading from Citrix Essentials to DaaS Standard for Azure, provides customers with several advantages, including:
– Single Session VDI –
Overcoming the limitations of server-based multi-session workloads in Virtual Apps Essentials, Citrix DaaS Standard now supports single session VDI for more specific application and user needs.
– Workspace Environment Management –
Enhances user experience with faster logins and better resource management, potentially reducing cloud compute costs.
– VDA Upgrade Service –
Citrix manages agent updates, easing administrative tasks.
– Session Recording –
Offers advanced troubleshooting and compliance capabilities through session recordings.
– Global App Configuration Service –
Simplifies software delivery, enabling admins to customize settings for users connecting to the Citrix cloud tenant.
– Built-in Autoscale –
Helps optimize Azure compute costs through intelligent management of load and power, aiding in cost-effective resource planning.
